Captains Go 2-1 at UNC Tournament

The Captains started out the weekend at the Jim Sapikowski Tournament with a loss to #12 Alabama, but rebounded on Saturday with a win over #4 Tennessee. On Sunday, the Captains beat South Carolina to finish the tournament 2-1. Click here for full results.
The Captains finish the Fall semester with back-to-back home games against East Carolina and Virginia Commonwealth December 4-5. Come out in your CNU blue to support the Captains!

Evason Named BRHC Player of the Week
HockeyYall.com announced today that Bryce Evason, an assistant captain on the Christopher Newport University ice hockey team, has been named its Blue Ridge Hockey Conference Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in the Captains’ 8-2 win over Old Dominion on Oct. 30. HockeyYall.com is a new blog that covers the 60-plus collegiate club hockey teams in the South.
The 6-foot, 210-lb. Evason, a junior forward, scored a three-goal hat trick and assisted on two other goals against Old Dominion as CNU improved its record to four wins and four losses in BRHC Colonial Division play. CNU is ranked sixth among southern teams that play at the American Collegiate Hockey Association’s Division III level. Evason has 11 goals and 8 assists in the Captains’ eight games.
CNU is at George Washington University on Nov. 6. Its next home game is Nov. 11 against Liberty University’s ACHA Division II team. Game time is 11 p.m. at the Hampton Roads Iceplex.
HockeyYall.com’s other Players of the Week are Wil White of North Carolina State University (Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League); Brendan Desjardins of the University of Arkansas (South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference) and Ian Steinberg of Emory University in Atlanta, representing the teams not affiliated with a conference.
Captains Win Big Over Old Dominion

The Captains looked bounce back from a weekend of losses by traveling to ODU and making a statement. That's just what the Captains did virtually controlling the entire game. Bryce Evason led the Captains in scoring with a hat trick, Brian Bowser tallied two goals, and CNU also had goals from Jon Dalziel, Ryan Dove, and Mark Dungan. Next Friday the Captains travel up to Washington D.C. to take on George Washington in a Colonial match. The Captains next home game is Saturday, November 14 against Liberty University D2. Come out and support the Captains!
Captains Play Hard, But Drop Two on The Road

The Captains traveled to two Colonial rivals this weekend. The went up against the Salisbury Gulls on Friday night and were defeated 6-2. They tried to bounce back on Saturday and came out hard against Loyola going up early in the game. However, the Captains suffered a hard fought loss 4-3. CNU looks to regain momentum as they trival to bitter rival ODU this Friday night at Iceland. Come out and support the Captains!

Weekend Recap – Oct 2 & 3
10/05/09
The Captains faced off Friday night against the Salisbury Gulls in their first BRHC Colonial Conference competition. With a strong first period, the Captains scored four quick goals and shut the Gulls out for an early lead. The Gulls responded quickly in the second, pushing the game to 5-3 after the second. The Captains finished strong, with a final score of 7-4. Goals were scored by Brian Bowser, Bryce Evason, Jon Dalziel, Brandon Schall, and Ryan Dove.
Saturday, the Captains traveled to Lynchburg, Va to square off against the Liberty Flames Division II team. With several early penalties, the Captains let up numerous powerplay goals to the Flames. Unable to make up for the early damage, the Captains fell to the Flames, 10-3. Goals were scored by Andrew Deitrick, Tate Dietrich, and Jon Dalziel. The Captains are off this week for fall break, and return to action at home Friday October, 16 against Richmond at 11:00 PM. Come out and support the Captains!
