The Christopher Newport University Gay-Straight Student Union (GSSU) is an alliance of students, from diverse backgrounds, seeking to address the unique needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered persons within the university community. This organization promotes the awareness and acceptance of such persons by providing a safe, accessible and supportive atmosphere for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered persons, and their straight allies. This organization educates the university regarding the relationship of homophobia to racism, sexism and classism. With an interest in furthering campus diversity, this organization promotes mutually supportive relationships between lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered persons, and their straight allies.
