Meetings
Unless prior arrangements have been made with the pledge master,
pledges must attend all meetings. These meetings serve as learning
about the fraternity as well as planning projects the pledge class will
carry out. Meetings typically occur weekly, and time of the
meetings are determined by pledge class in conjunction with the pledge
master. Information about the fraternity is subject to quizzing
and are to be passed, with an overall cumulative score of at least 85%.
Service
A total number of 12 service hours are to be completed by the
pledge by the end of the pledging period. 3 hours are to be with
the pledge class, another 3 with the brotherhood and the remaining 6
hours can be put towards either. The pledge class is to, as a
whole, plan and carry out a service project of their choosing during the
pledging period as well.
Big Brothers
Every pledge is assigned a big brother based on common
interests. This person is a member of the fraternity who is willing to
act as a guide for you and help you through the process of pledging. As
a mentor they will help you to study for important things such as the
final exam and they can help you adjust to the brotherhood. Your big
brother will not be made known to you immediately. Attending a
function outside of brotherhood activities prior to initiation is also
required. This is to be time to get to know each other as well as
make sure that the pledge is ready for initiation.
Interviews
Each pledge must interview all fellow pledges, all active
brothers, any associate brothers as well as our four advisors. One
or two interview parties will occur during the pledge period.
Interview parties are times designated for all active brothers, advisors
and any available alumni to meet with pledges so that interviews may be
completed in one (or two) easy sittings.
Money (Dues)
Currently, pledge dues are $67.00. This is subject to change
from time to time. This includes a national insurance fee.
This payment is broken into two portions, the first $32.00 being paid at
the initial pledge ceremony and the remaining $35.00 being paid at the
time of initiation.
Scrapbook and Paddle
As a whole, the pledge class is to create a scrapbook to present
to the brotherhood that represents their pledging period.
Additionally, a pledge class paddle is to be presented to the
brotherhood.
Other requirements
Anyone interested in pledging must have a cumulative Grade Point
Average of 2.0 to pledge as well as be a CNU student taking at least
three credit hours.
Realize that Alpha Phi Omega and its CNU Chapter, Alpha Delta Xi, does
not tolerate hazing and will not demean you in any way as an individual
or require you to perform personal services for the Brothers.
Understand that the purpose of the pledge period is to serve as an
introduction into Alpha Phi Omega, and to unify pledges with one another
and the brothers through leadership, friendship, and service.
If all requirements are not completed by Initiation, pledging will be
held over to the following semester to finish necessary requirements if
prior arrangements have not been made with the Pledge master.
